Tamara Tran and Crista Crane created OAX Clothing to accomplish two goals. The first was to allow their daughters to learn business skills by owning and operating a profitable business, and the second was to support the Cambodia Job Foundation (CJF). There are women from the remote villages of Cambodia who have to live for long periods away from their families to make a living working in the clothing factories of Phnom Penh. The employers are often demanding and the conditions oppressive with excessive temperatures, insufficient access to toilets, and unreasonable risk of getting fired if they are pregnant. They continue working under these conditions because there are very few alternatives to provide for their families. Many of these women have found help with CJF’s “Small Business Start-Up Program" where they have learned about business and financial literacy. Several graduates are talented seamstresses and pattern makers who have opened their workshops. OAX Clothing is a supplier for these women. The company also carries other lines of clothing.
